S’more to Love About Camping

It’s Fall, Ya’ll! You know what that means… cooler weather, stuffier noses, beautiful colors, more outside play, pre-holiday excitement and the biggest of all: camping season!

Our family’s first camping trip of the season is this weekend, and I could not be more excited. Camping is the peak of family time to me. Fireside story sharing, s’mores by moonlight, late night giggle sessions, backpack explorations, and memory building.

We will usually spend about two weekends a month from October through May traveling somewhere to camp. Our goal is to hit every state park in Texas, collecting a patch at each.

My kids will spend the next couple of weeks with sentences that begin, “remember that time when…,” and every time I hear the story about feeding raccoons by hand, seeing a deer in the woods, walking in the icy river in February, or exploring the rapids, I smile.

Camping allows me to steal my kids from the grips of the world, if only for a few days, and remind them of how awesome they are. It also allows me to reconnect with my family and have that little reminder for myself.

What is your ultimate family time?
